Question for tech2

As mentioned by someone else lately here, my 12V plug at the bottom of my 2007 Uplander front console quit working.
I use it to plug in a small 12V air compressor for topping up the tire air pressure.

The fuse is good and I don't know how to go about getting to that socket on the console.... what panel pieces to remove and how to get them apart so I can check out the plug inside the console.

Any help would be appreciated.

All the best from Essex County !!

Bob

guess I gotta reply now...lol

I have seen a few bad power outlet receptacles. As you have ruled out the fuse, I suspect the outlet is bad.

open the storage compartment and then pull it out. the trim panel that surrounded the storage compartment is held in by clips that can be pulled back to unclip. Sometimes a trim tool is needed. Once these two pieces are off you should be able to access the lighter connector.

If you have power and grd at the connector...you need a new socket. gm uses this tool to remove the socket: J 42059 Cigar Lighter Socket Remover.
you can get out without one; now that you have access to the backside. use a pick and depress the tabs and slide it forward.

Thanks ! That outlet is quite handy and it'll be good to get it up & running again.

Thanks for your help.

I took the front off the console and checked voltage at the outlet plug. There was 12V.
The plug itself was "loose" and intermittent.
I replaced it with an Old School cigarette lighter socket from NAPA.

tech2 Thanks for the help !!

I have found over the years, that what 1 place calls a 12V lighter socket adapter is loose or doesn't work compared to some other year's outlet.

I mean it's a total mess.

Even between sockets in same chevy 2002 car...
