2002 Venture - Erratic Fuel Gauge

The fuel gauge on my van is all over the place. It indicates tank empty after I just fill it and moves around erratically. Anyone know what I'm looking at for repair? I read GM has a fuel cleaner product that you pour in the tank and it will fix this issue? Anyone had luck with this quick fix?
Please help.

I just had the same problem. I tried cleaners for several weeks hoping it would help.....and it didn't. What I did to fix my crazy gauge was remove the sending unit from the tank and clean the grey sludge looking stuff off. This was about 3 months ago and the gauge is reading perfect. I got a quote from a local mechanic to do this job for $150.00.

This is an old thread but i try anyway, maybe it can help somebody.
Our 2006 Uplander had the same symptoms, it showed empty just after filling up. I understood that it was the part of the gauge that is dry most of the time that made wrong signal. Now I have the habit of filling up with gas frequently and after the trips, before putting it on the parking. After doing this for 6 months the problem dissapeared.
