Heater-how do they work??.
 

Just being curious.I wouldn't think the Volt has much of a cooling system if,and again I don't know,one at all.So how does the heaters work??.Do they work that well??.If your running off the battery,where does the heat come from??.:confused::confused:

a ceramic heater i would imagine, it cant be a coolant based system

I am a how does it work kind of guy.So I did a search on Google.Which answered and added to the confusion on my part.From what I read it does have a coolant rad that has three sections.One section that is Dex-cool for the 1.8 gas engine(makes sense),one section of the rad for cooling the batteries(didn't know batteries had to be cooled,huh??),and the third section for the drive system,(I think it said it too the Dex-cool,strange).It said the coolant was diverted by a valve weither it be on battery power or by the gas engine to a heater core.I wouldn't think the battery side would be that hot.In fact given the size of the gas engine it too I wouldn't think would generate that much heat to the heater core.Then there was something about A/C equipped models where on battery power it cut down on the range by 1/3.A/C powered???.

Well I hope someone will chime in with some experience or factory training to clear up some of the confusion on my and who knows other guys.:confused::confused::confused:

ahh that makes a lil sense, it has a 3 part cooling system the cooling for the drive system (electric motors) the batt packs and the IC engine, the batteries get hot as they are being used, and the batteries have a really intricate cooling system for them to prevent overheating. one thing i forgot about is the engine starts at the first start of the day if it is not plugged in to warm the batteries.

that's what it would use for the passenger cabin. (I assume).

I don't know but heat pump would also been my guess...

Heater module is connected with radiator and engine through pump.

Heater module is connected with inside radiator by 2 tubes. You can see it here #23:
