I have a 1998 1500 van,and I have an air conditioning issue. I take a lot of 4 hour trips, and after about 2-1/2 or 3 hours, the Air conditioner seems to start slowing down. I can hear the fan blowing but it doesn't come out of the vents. I then usually stop at a rest area and turn everthing off for 10-15 minutes. Most of the time, it works ok the rest of my trip. The slowdown seems to be gradual, almost (just guessing) like a duct is slowly closing. If there is anything I can do to fix this, I would love to hear it. Even if I can't fix it myself, I need to know what to tell my mechanic. I have asked him about it before, and he says to bring it in while it is malfunctioning. That is not practical. He is a good mechanic, but there must be more involved in this situation. Any suggestions??

do you mean the temperature of the air gets warm or the amount of air flowing from the blower motor is reduced?

The amount of air flowing from the blower motor is reduced, still cool, but I can still hear it blowing, just not from the vents. I dont think it is a blower motor or freon issue, seems to be a duct issue in my opinion.

Sounds electrical. My first guess is the dash control switch. It would send the signal to the control servos that open and close the vents to direct air to the where you select. If it is changing by itself after a while...maybe it has a bad connection that is heating up and slowly building a resistance.....

by control switch, are you referring to the temperature switch or the ac/max ac/def/heat. switch? Also, in the post that you linked to, there are apparently two servos, which one would it be?

the ac max def heat, but in this case I think its is all one unit. If you have an auto wrecker that has one of these vans, you may be able to pick up a dash switch and swap it to see if that is the culprit.
As for the servos, that thread was for a tahoe, but I am sure the van is similar. It was meant to steer you in hopefully the right direction.

I have three switches, fan, temp, and ac,max, def, etc. But it doesn't seem to be them, I think the servo idea Is a good place to start. And yes, you did steer me in the right direction. Thanks
