Hi JayB,

We apologize for the frustrations caused and want to ensure you feel safe in your vehicle. If you could please provide us with your VIN through a private message, we can look at your vehicle's specifics. Have you spoken with your dealership about the concern?

Really it's the same problem, so my or my loved ones lives don't matter because of where the freaking car was made???!!! Someone please help!!!

I have to drive on a very busy highway to get to work and mine would go out at the most inconvenient times. I am a teacher and cannot afford to be getting a new repair on this horrible HHR every month. I decided to put the new motor in myself. I bought a new motor from them. They told me Chevy no longer makes brand new ones and I would have to get a refurbished one. This is weird considering the recall of the other cars. I guess they are putting refurbished parts on those too. It was simple to put on and the power steering seems to be working. The problem I am having now is a whining, or squeaking noise that the car makes every time I turn the wheel. This can be both while driving and sitting in park turning the wheel. Do you think they gave me a bad Power Steering Motor? It hasn't kicked off yet and seems to be working. I need help. I cannot stand the noise. Thanks.

Default My 2006 HHR is a disaster piece of the road

The power steering in my 2006 HHR LT goes out without warning, at various speeds. It has 126,600 miles on it and was a good car when we started leasing it in November of last year. First, the ignition recall which was a bear in it's own right. We had to have a rental for 2 months before it could be fixed. Now that we've gotten it back after being fixed from the recall, this power steering issue has intensified. Now it's everyday. I have checked the fuses under the hood well enough to know that it is not the fuses shorting out. I am so over this car. Chevrolet should be ashamed of putting this thing on the market. What Is this about a recall on cobalt power steering and not the HHR? This issue is going to get someone killed. I'm looking toward a lemon law on this thing in the state of Indiana. If anyone knows what to do where to look to fix this issue please respond. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks Chevrolet forum users.

Default I feel your pain! !

I have a 2008 HHR and I'm having the same exact problems... I've called and called Cheverolt just to be told my car wasn't in the recall because it was built in a different plant... so I guess my life isn't as important. .. This is dangerous and something really should be done I've pulled a chest muscle because of my power steering. . :-(

JayB, What all can we do about this? Maybe we can bind together some others and really make a stir on this issue. It is VERY dangerous for this "glitch" to occur on the open road. I drive in my HHR everyday to work, and have no choice but to use it to go places with my two boys. I can't afford to fix everything just to find out the problem still exists. Therefore, I haven't taken anything apart or replaced anything as of yet. Next to my starter, both front wheel bearings, the ignition recall, and the key recall. The car isn't necessarily high mileage (126,000), but I have heard of this issue occurring on cars with as little as 300 miles on them. So, I really don't think it's wear that makes this issue worse. It seems it just happens whenever it wants without warning. I am going to look into a lemon law here in Indiana over this "death trap." I can't afford to get into an accident with kids in the car. I have also figured out that in my HHR the problem happens in the morning with it being wet, and usually at lower speeds than 70mph. Once you stop after a glitch, it's a bear to get back up to speed. It will spudder at touch og the brakes, and the transmition shifts HARD. Every light in the dash will be on at times, not always is the check engine light on. The airbag indicator light goes from off to on, and now after every spell it always has the security light and traction control light on. It used to completely go back to normal with just the check engine light needing reset. I had the codes checked, and it threw 2 of the same codes. One being bcm something or other, and not sure what other one was. I have also read up that this supposed occurance is due to horrible programing setup. Also read about the fuse box connection near the firewall under the hood has a bad connection. I will keep you posted though on this issue, and let you know what I find out.

I am all for banding together. .. but how? I have tried to reach out to my local news station (birmingham al ) but no response just yet... This is very dangerous and I to have a son that I have to transport daily so I exactly how you feel about that. .. lemon law what's that? I purchased my vehicle Feb of this year around March is when the power steering began to cut out at first just every so often. . Now it's 10 sec after I turn it on! I'm paying a car note so I have absolutely no money to get a car I just purchased fixed plus now with the 3,000 dollar medical bill I have obtained from a pulled chest muscle... I would just really like this rectified .. please keep me up to date and I will do the same for you. . If anyone reading this has any type of suggestions please let us know. .. Thanks

126,000 miles?!!! get a clue. Repair your vehicle. Sounds like you don't perform basic maintenance.

I guess all you youngin's don't remember GM steering problems when cold (below freezing) back in the 80's.

Default Power steering going out

I have had problems with the power steering going out during cold weather below 20 degrees F. Have not had the problem look at yet and power steering fluid has been fine all 3 times.
