Question When to get the oil changed

I know this has been covered many times in the forum, however I've read several posts where this person had it changed at 15% or 10%..... When is the oil supposed to be changed under the 2 year maintenance? I have about 14439 on my 2014 impala now. The oil monitor states I still have 19% oil life left, the little reminder sticker on the window that the dealer left from the last change says to change at 15240. Do I wait until the oil minder says 0%, do I wait until I reach the mileage on the window sticker and have it changed regardless of what the oil minder states?

My Chevrolet dealer wouldn't change mine until I had less than 20% (or 5000 miles) under the 2 year free oil changes. Waiting for the 10000 mile mark to get my next oil change. I don't put that many miles on mine, so will be lucky to get 4 oil changes in the 2 years.

When they put the little sticker on the windshield, just throw it out. Those are from the pre-oil life monitors. I have no idea why they still do that.

Just have faith in what the on-board monitor is telling you. I hit under 20% at 5500 miles, so I think your numbers are good, and the change was included in the free maintenance.

What dmahillen said is pretty much spot on, you get about 2 oil changes a year, I have had my 07 Tahoe for nearly 7 years and with the OLMS I change oil 2 times a year or about every 7200-8500 miles...

So I won't get an oil change after 9 months and 2,500 miles and 65%?

They obviously excessively "topped it off" as it reads up to the first twist on the dipstick when I was in for the camshaft actuator. I was only down 1 dot at 867 miles.

So I agree with going 5000 miles but one thing to remember is to check your oil on a regular basis. If your car runs out of oil it is not their
fault. Some cars burn oil and it also depends on if you are running synthetic oil.

kellyjri78 Welcome to the forum and Wow! you are absolutely correct on that one, so many helpful features are on a vehicle that the very basics get missed sometimes... at least every 1 or 2 weeks check that oil level and top off as needed.
Its especially important to do this on road trips as high speeds and extended drive times do consume oil, check that oil at those fill ups...
If you do need to top it off on the road its okay to mix dino and synthetics and even different weights to some extent to keep the correct level.. better to mix then run it too low.

I was going to wait until I got down to 5% or so, then I got an email from the dealer stating the oil monitor was indicating I was at 12.9%. I guess they were notified by the status that gets reported with the onstar data.

Funny that OnStar eventually quit calling me after 7 months?... never left a message as to who was calling or for what reason. Real classy.

XM never hit me until recently after 8 months.. there again - never a message left. Real classy there too.
