headers/exhaust
ok i have a chevy c/1500 silverado 5.7l 350 and have been looking around at headers and exhaust systems for a while now and i still dont exactly know what i want.i am on a budget so i am going to slowly peice it together and do it my self and i dont want it to be to much of a pain. i mainly use my truck as an every day driver and i want it to sound good and get more performance out of it. i was just wandering if i would be better off doing shorty headers and a cat back or mid length headers and a cat back or go with long tubes and try to make it work. i want to get the best bang for the buck.any suggestions or help would be great. thanks ahead of time

with a truck still under smog limitations, you want to stay as close to the stock setup as you can (at least in CA). the 88 i believe has shorty manifolds, so try out a set of shorty headers from edelbrock. they cost about $350 from summitracing.com. i recommend flowmaster for muffler(s). i put a super 40 series on my 90 and it sounds bad (of course with my cutoffs the nieghbors probably dont like it much). in my opinion, to make it sound good, dont run it all the way out of the back. run it to your rear axle and dump it down. this will make it a bit louder and sound beefier than running it all the way.

i second everything speedy says, my 93 goes out the back and i cant hardly hear it, going with true duals is a pain on these trucks cause the fuel tank makes you put them on the same side, not saying its impossible it just isnt fun to make all the bends

i don't have to worry about emisions, what about flowtech afterburner headers they are mid lengths and are fairly cheap and they have a specific y pipe for them and a cat back the whole setup is fairly cheap. are those headers any good?

im not a big fan of flowtech. headman headers is good though. if anything put long tubes
on it and fresh pipe from the cat back. you also might want to look at cherrybomb glasspack mufflers. i was looking at their glasspacks and almost bought it for my truck.
