Anyone have any experience with a eco fuel chip that increases your mpg? Do they work? Which one should I go with?

A guy i work with used one on his 97 with a 4.3 v6 and got 0.5-1.0 mpg better. Depending on how much driving you do, it may pay for itself. Ive always been leery of using them because im scared it'll damage the engine. What mpgs are you getting? I average around 14 in my 5.7.
