At 68,000 miles my '07 Silverado 5.3 started missing badly/shifting roughly. Local dealership is telling me it needs new lifters (cam is fine) and quote is $3,800. Is that reasonable? I was expecting closer to $2500?

That sounds VERY HIGH to me. For 4 grand, you could probably buy a brand new (or remanufactured) engine.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm having it towed to another shop tomorrow that comes highly recommended. Will post an update.

Shop is telling me it's a bottom end issue and most likely engine will need to be replaced. Waiting on them to call back with a definitive answer.
