Welcome to the forum.

Although I've never heard of the Estate edition, the model year might be helpful.

Was that an aftermarket conversion?

Default Suburban Estate Editions

I'm, not sure if you ever got an answer, but I own a 76 Suburban Estate. Like every option available in the 70's, woodgrain could be ordered as a seperate item and therefore did not distinguish an estate. However, all estates did include woodgrain. They also included a special interior package with extra trim on the door panels, chrome surround strips on the dash.

In 76, only 239 1/2 ton estates were built for Canada

No, it has the stock am/fm radio. The open space is where the dash air conditioning vent would be if it had air. Instead they leave a storage spot.
