Default AC Charging Port

The valve that is used to charge the air conditioning system in my 2003 Chevy Suburban with a 5.3L Vortex engine has been damaged I assume by the last garage that I used a couple years back. Can I purchase that valve at the parts store and replace it without damaging the system? It appears to thread into the base at the line.

It's a schrader valve. As long as the threads aren't damaged, you can probably pick one up in the help aisle at autozone

You may want to have the system evacuated first so you don't have to vent all of your current charge. Once you have done the repair typically the place that you have evacuate the system will give you credit for what was removed and then charge up the rest...
