Default Ignition cylinder bypass?

On my 88 suburban, the the ignition lock has been decimated. To start the truck, i turn the switch that was at the bottom of the cylinder with a pair of pliers. Im hoping to change it to where i flip a toggle switch to put it in "run" position, and then push a momentary switch to engage the starter. The only problem is, i dont know how to go about getting into the steering column at that part. Help?
Thanks in advance

They are a pain, but doable. Since you have to remove the old igmition switch, why not just replace it?

there are some push button start switches available on ebay and aliexpress. That would be cool on a 88

The ignition switch is already gone lol, no removal there. And since it lends itself to such a project, i was thinking to put in a series of switches that all need to be in the right position for it to run. Kinda thinking mad max ish i gues ha

thats a pretty cool button, the problem being it still requires the lock cylinder to be turned... i was hoping to completely eliminate needing to use the steering column switches, and use dash mounted switches instead

Well, the switches themselves arent an issue. Im planning on using a toggle switch (or set therof) to put the system in "run" mode, and then a momentary switch to engage the starter. I guess what im asking, is how would i go about wiring these in using the existing colomn circuitry?

Depends on if your wheel still locks. You need a heavier switch since lights and accessories run off it. The switch wires are on bottom of the column near brake pedal. I used 35 amp push button under dash to starter
