ok when we got our Tahoe the previous owner installed HIDs. I have had problems with the drivers side light not working. When I look at the ballast it seems that some of the wires are loose because if I move them around the light will come on most of the time. now the drivers side does not work at all, but I have not had time to look at it further. I think I will have to re due it all because the current stuff seems pretty shoddy.

anyway I turned off the approach light feature to help save the HIDs. one thing that I notice is when we pull the truck in the garage and the lights are off - when we turn the truck off the lights flash on for about 1/2 a second.
this cannot be good for them. is this "normal"?

no only the DRL's should flash for tht split second as for hids, unless you buy a high quality ballasts typically the more expensive ones, they will fail/flicker/ only work sometimes. also the ballast may require more voltage than the tahoes thing guage wire can handle, causing them to only work sometimes. I recently had this problem with a replacement ballast. that is why it is best to buy a vehicle specific kit. Intense HID sells an almost bulletproof kit. with good warantee, from experience with both high and low quality ballast i would go with the intense HID kit for 100 bucks cant go wrong. headlights are pretty important lol

Does the Intense kit use a relay for the 12V?

thanks for the info cojo - I will look into those. for a couple 100$ it may be best to just replace it all with stuff that I know is done correctly. I have no idea what brand the previous owner put on - there is nothing on the ballast other than voltage info
