Default stereo problems with my 06 Yukon XL (suburban)

We just bought a 2006 yukon Xl. We love the truck. Our only problem so far is with the stereo. The sound is really quite and "tinny" as my wife would say. It the stranded delphi with xm no bose. I saw on some posted about an amp under the center console or in the rear of the truck in the drivers side wheel well but, I have no console just a fold up center and I didnt see anything in the well........any ideas

Thanks
