Default What year 5.3s use 8 quarts?

I have a 2000 Suburban 4x4 with a 5.3 V8. The odometer reads 219,000. The engine was just installed and came from a wreck in a junkyard and had 40,000 on it when installed. When I changed the oil 6 quarts puts the level at the very tip of the dipstick. It takes 8 quarts to get the level up to full. At this point I'm assuming that I have a late model engine that takes 8 quarts rather than the six quarts called for in the 2000 models. What is the first year that 5.3 V8s started requiring 8 quarts?

as far a i know the 5.3 from 2000 to 2013 all take 6 liters. the new direct injection engines take 8 liters...no way they would cross over.

if the oil pan was removed I could see it taking another liter but not 2 liters.

I cut two inches off of the dip-stick. The engine came from a wreck with 40,000 miles on it. The 2000 - 2006 dipstick doesn't fit right and doesn't seat into the block/pan. I ordered a dip stick for a 2007 - 2013 and it seems to be the right one. I haven't installed it yet because my modification works perfectly, for now. I inspected the oil pan and I'm sure it's the OEM pan, 6 quarts (2000 - 2013 = 6 quarts).
