How much miles have I got left on front brakes?
Hi Guys,
I have been noticing that my front brakes started to squeak more frequently when I apply brakes, but it seems that they have enough pad on it. Maybe cheap pads (got the Van from previous owner)?!

What do you think how much life (miles) they have left?
Thanks!

It's hard to tell from that picture. It all depends on your driving habits anyway. Some accelerate hard and brake hard. Some ride their brakes. Can't see the face of the rotor and tell if they are in good shape or not. Too many variables.

Thank you for a reply.
So I guess then I have another question - will brakes start making some "specific noise" when it's time to change brake pads?
Thanks!

If I'm seeing what I think I'm seeing, then you have a good bit of pad material left. But I also see a built up ridge of rust on the inner diameter of the rotor, where it's wearing a groove at the top of the pad. That rust could be the source of your singing pads. You'd want to go around on both sides of the rotor and tap those rust chunks off with a hammer. When you get it knocked off, that area will actually be lower than the braking surface of the rotor. It's possible somebody gave the car a cheapo brake job...off with the old pads, and on with the new, without doing anything else. And yes, generally, brake pads have a metal "scraper" that will start to drag the rotor and make a noise when the pads get down so far. Also check the inner pads, those could be worn down further than the outer ones.
