Chevrolet Sweeps 2024 Daytona 500; Creates History

Chevrolet is now the only manufacturer in NASCAR history to sweep all three national series in a season-opening weekend at Daytona–twice.
Amidst a rain-delayed start and a thrilling late-race showdown, Team Chevy’s William Byron and the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Camaro ZL1 squad came out of it victorious, claiming the coveted title of the 2024 “Daytona 500 Champions.” Byron’s triumph marked Chevrolet’s second consecutive victory and its 26th all-time win in the prestigious “Great American Race.”
“Congratulations to Byron and the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports Camaro ZL1 team on their win in the 2024 Daytona 500,” said Scott Bell, vice president, Global Chevrolet. “Winning NASCAR’s most iconic race is a goal for Chevrolet each season, and we are proud to have William bring home our 26th victory in the Great American Race.”
This win holds special significance for Hendrick Motorsports, marking their return to victory lane in the Daytona 500 after a nine-year absence. Byron’s exceptional performance not only secured the organization’s ninth victory in this prestigious event but also coincided with the 40th anniversary of Hendrick Motorsports’ inaugural race in NASCAR’s premier division, adding an extra layer of significance to the start of the organization’s anniversary season.
Chevrolet’s successful weekend at Daytona International Speedway began with a milestone achievement as Nick Sanchez and the No. 2 Rev Racing Silverado RST team secured the manufacturer’s 100th NASCAR victory in Friday’s NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race at the famed 2.5-mile Florida Superspeedway.”
Alongside Byron’s triumph, fellow Team Chevy contender Austin Hill secured victory in the NASCAR Xfinity Series’ season-opener, bringing his No. 21 Richard Childress Racing Camaro SS to victory lane and completing a remarkable weekend sweep for Chevrolet at the iconic “World Center of Racing.”
This achievement solidifies Chevrolet’s unique status in NASCAR history as the sole manufacturer to achieve a weekend sweep across all three NASCAR national series at Daytona International Speedway on multiple occasions. Notably, Chevrolet previously accomplished this remarkable feat in 2018.
“The victory added to an already special weekend for Chevrolet at Daytona,” added Bell. “We are honored to have Nick Sanchez, Austin Hill and William Byron add their names to an elite list of drivers who have taken Chevrolet to 102 NASCAR wins at Daytona International Speedway.”
The 2024 season continued for all three NASCAR national series at Atlanta Motor Speedway last weekend, kicking off with a NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and NASCAR Xfinity Series doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 24, followed by the NASCAR Cup Series race on Sunday, Feb. 25.
