I've read where painting rubber wasn't the best idea because the paint will eventually crack and peel. Is there a way to dye the rubber instead? Or some other solution?

Please can someone tell me what this is? It was broken off the back somewhere near the engine valley pan. I know it sits near the oil pressure sensor. It's NOT the camshaft position sensor, I have a...
