Unique ride proves family trips don’t have to rely on some boring SUV.

Head out on any American highway this summer, and you’ll undoubtedly see dozens of SUVs loaded with families headed out on vacation. It is, after all, a big part of our culture and has been for decades. Since the advent of the automobile and the interstate, families have long looked forward to packing up and traversing this wonderful country of ours. But somewhere along the way, we seem to have lost sight of one important aspect of these road trips — the vehicles we take them in.

Gone are the days of huge station wagons clad with wood paneling. No longer do you see stylish coupes and sedans on our highways. Vanilla looking SUVs have become the new road trip standard, and it just isn’t right. We say it’s high time somebody started a new trend and reversed this trend of mundane transportation. You can start by road trippin’ in something like this super sweet 1946 Chevy Suburban.

Inside, the vintage Chevy Suburban are plenty of amenities for long hauls, including super-comfy bucket seats and slide-out video screens with DVD players.

We spotted the hot rodded family hauler over in the Hemmings classifieds, where it’s waiting to help us restore the glamor of the American road trip. And despite its stellar looks, this is a 10-year-old restoration. So you won’t regret collecting a few hundred dead bugs on that giant chrome grille.

Inside, you’ll find plenty of amenities for long hauls, including some super-comfy-looking bucket seats. The vintage Chevy Suburban even has cup holders. Not to mention a pair of slide-out video screens with DVD players so all the kiddies can enjoy a few movies along the way.  And there’s no vintage drivetrain underneath all this stylish comfort either. Rather, it sports a 350 V8 and 700R4 automatic transmission for easy highway cruising.

This relatively rare vintage hauler has us dreaming of a day when highways are clogged with classic cars instead of cookie cutter SUVs. So let’s start a new trend and make our highways a classy place to be — just like the old days.
