1956 Chevy 150 Sedan Delivery: Badass and Practical

You’d be hard pressed to find a cooler daily cruiser than this.

This 1956 Chevrolet 150 Sedan Delivery is a unique take on the popular Tri-Five concept. For whatever reason, ’56s are not nearly as popular or well-loved as the ’55s and the ’57s. That’s a shame, because we find them beautiful in their own way, with at least one ChevroletForum writer proudly proclaiming it as his favorite.

Slab-sided sedan deliveries are a thing of the past, and that’s a crying shame. A two-door wagon without windows would be a great pickup truck alternative for small hauling and transport jobs. Antiques? Musical instruments? Bags of mulch? No problem, and you can do it all in a vehicle that keeps your goods safely protected from the elements and away from the prying eyes of thieves or vandals. Best of all, you can drive it and park it like a car.

While we lament the loss of sedan deliveries, this one has been thoroughly modernized so that we can enjoy its classic style and make use of it every day. Our favorite part of this Tri-Five is its cushy interior with air conditioning and a custom stereo installation. What else do you need in a daily driver, anyway?

Under the hood, you’ve got plenty of juice to haul anything you can imagine. A 355 cubic inch Chevy V8 with Vortec heads, an Edelbrock aluminum intake, and a mild camshaft is sure to produce enough power for our liking, while a limited-slip rear end ensures that the power will make it to the ground through both wheels. A modern overdrive transmission further eases cruising duties.

We can’t, of course, ignore the exterior. The two-tone red and white scheme is classic, striking, and beautiful, and the slab sides look straight as an arrow. If you want to dare to be different, nothing at the cruise-in will draw quite as much attention as this rare ’56 sedan delivery.
