What better way to see the U.S.A. than behind the wheel of this classic Chevy Nomad?

Back in the 1950s, America was stricken with the romance of a good road trip. With thousands of miles of interstates and beautiful scenery to take in, the annual summer vacation was officially something that everyone partook in. Making those memorable trips even better was the presence of some of the most beautiful four-wheeled machinery ever produced. Like this 1956 Chevy Nomad, for example.

We spotted the Bel Air wagon over at The Classic Car Network, and it immediately grabbed our attention for more reasons than one. For starters, you rarely see 1956 Chevys in general. 1955s and 1957s get all the love, and that’s a shame. Secondly, you don’t see a lot of Nomads around these days, no matter what the model year. And this one is in incredible condition.

Everything on this classic Chevy Nomad is new or redone, from top to bottom. The paint and interior work is flawless, the crate 350 small block clean enough to eat off of. Like any good ’50s classic, there’s plenty of chrome, all of it shining like new. And everything you’d want in a comfy cruiser is there. Power steering, brakes, air conditioning, and fresh disc brakes round out an excellent package.

The Nomad moniker wasn’t just a coincidence, after all. Chevy built their special wagon with the traveler in mind, offering them the space needed to wander this great country of ours. And even now, 61 years later, you won’t find a more stylish way to do it. This freshly built Chevy Nomad is quite simply the American dream, all rolled up into one beautiful package.
