2018 Chevy Silverado Rocks Far Out ’70s Vibe
Silverado has all the modern technology, serious off-roading chops, and a groovy throwback style.
While we love the innovations of modern trucks, we still long for the very solid brick house trucks of the 1970s. The square bodied trucks of that era possessed clean, straightforward lines and impressive strength. So naturally, we fell hard for this 2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. It nicely gives a nod to its roots, while offering all the modern amenities and technology we need and desire.
We spotted this Silverado at Country Chevrolet in Warrenton, Virginia. The Silverado, a regular cab long box, is painted in Summit White complemented with yellow, orange, and red stripes. The KC Daylighter covers with period-perfect smiley faces adds to its 1970s charm and aesthetic.
The truck has been custom built for rowdy play on or off the road, and includes a chrome bull bar, chrome grille surround, and front anti-roll bar. Lifted and menacing, the Pro-Comp heavy-duty suspension system and performance shocks adds to its steely durability. It rolls on P255/70R17 all-season blackwall tires and 17″ x 8″ painted steel wheels.
Powered by a 4.3L FlexFuel EcoTec3 V6, this rig produces a beefy 285 hp and 305 lb-ft of torque. The 6-speed automatic transmission is electronically controlled with overdrive and tow/haul mode. A nice upgrade from the 70s, and definitely friendlier for fuel efficiency.
Another modern convenience is the infotainment system, Bluetooth, and parking assist. The interior is comfy and well appointed, and it looks very cool in dark ash with jet black. As much as we love classic trucks, we just can’t help but appreciate the modern perks the Silverado offers, like a rocking audio system. If we want to add some 70s ambiance, we’ll happily crank some Queen or The Clash.
If you’re looking for a modern pickup with 1970s soul, we think this Silverado is the perfect balance.
