2020 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ: Top 5 Favorite Features

By -

Let’s get straight to the point on the features you’ll like the most on the new Chevy Silverado LTZ, which we spent a week test-driving.

Recently, I was fortunate enough to spend a week with a brand-new 2020 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ, which was optioned everywhere a box could be checked. Options on this beast included the LTZ Premium Package, Technology Package, Z71 Off-Road Package, a 3.0-liter diesel engine, and a beautiful Cajun Red Tintcoat.

With all these options and the Silverado being a great all-around full-size truck, I wanted to take some time to showcase my top five favorite things about the truck. So, let’s get to it.

#1: 3.0-liter Diesel Engine

The Silverado LTZ that I drove was equipped with the 3.0-liter turbocharged diesel Duramax engine, which puts out 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque all while mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. It is all it needs to propel the Silverado’s 5,500-plus pounds down the road. Not only with ease, but with achieving a near 30 miles per gallon highway. (On the 2020 Silverado, the Duramax 3.0-liter diesel is a $2,495 option, and it’s worth it.)

#2: Drive Modes

My love of performance vehicles is what queues up driving modes to be a top pick for me. The dial on a Ferrari steering wheel, the ///M button on an M3, or the simple toggle you have in this Silverado LTZ. They all do it for me.

You can change how a vehicle behaves from one turn of the nob. In some of the performance vehicles in Chevrolet’s line up, suspension can be changed. On some other Chevrolet offerings, the exhaust note can be made louder from the flip of a switch or setting, but in the case of the Silverado, throttle input gets changed along with a little steering.

The Silverado’s Drive Mode dial is located on the top left of the steering wheel, right above the 4WD buttons. Turning the dial to the right unlocks three different modes: Normal, Sport, and Off-road. Normal is nothing much to mention as it is the default mode. Sport mode makes the transmission shift smoother all while keeping the driver in the truck’s peak powerband. And the Off-road mode gives the driver even greater control.

#3: Z71 Off-Road Package

Along with that diesel engine, another option that I deem as a best feature and perhaps the best bargain option on the 2020 Silverado that I drove was the Z71 Off-Road Package. For $1,605, the package adds many practical features to the Silverado LTZ, including hill descent control, dual exhaust with polished tips, and, of course, Z71 badging.

A Z71 Off-Road Package is basically a performance option with some appearance mods, and it seems like a heck of a bargain. Many performance options in the realm of track packages or competition packages often feature some different wheels and a suspension setting, but with the Z71 package, you get 10 options.

I noticed on the truck’s window sticker that the Z71 Off-Road Package is practically free when you consider that you get a $1,500 discount when getting the LTZ Premium and Z71 Off-Road Package. They call it a discount. I call it a basically free Z71 package. The cost is only $105 for all of those options if you take into account the discount.

#4: Roomy Interior

While testing out the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado LTZ, I drove some of my co-workers to lunch the whole week I had the vehicle, and they really enjoyed the truck’s roomy interior. Being 6’6 myself, I welcome and instantly notice and love any extra room I can get. A full-size truck like the Chevrolet Silverado gives someone my size space in abundance.

#5: 15 Camera Views

The Silverado’s interior design isn’t anything to write home about. However, its infotainment system has the ability to showcase 15 different camera views from around the vehicle. The cameras allow you to see the front, back, what’s in the bed, and the trailer hitch for easy lineup.
