5 Surprising Facts About the Chevy Colorado ZR2

By -

In many aspects, the Colorado ZR2 stands alone in the off-road truck market.

By now, there probably isn’t too much about the Colorado ZR2 that you don’t know. The much hyped off roader has been everywhere lately, and all that attention is well deserved. Now that reviewers are getting their dirty little hands on the capable mid-sizer, we’re hearing nothing but accolades about the truck. In fact, buying one appears to be a no-brainer for those seeking a do-it-all pickup.

The Fast Lane Truck is among the many who have gotten the chance to wring out the Colorado ZR2 in a proper off road environment. But aside from their typical review, they did a separate piece just to highlight the five things that surprised them about Chevy’s latest and greatest. With some awesome jumping action thrown in just because.

Colorado ZR2

The first surprising fact is that the Colorado ZR2 is the only mid-size pickup in America that you can buy with a diesel engine. And that baby Duramax pumps out an impressive 369 lb-ft of torque. Plus, you can use that torque with confidence, because the ZR2 doesn’t have a front air dam to destroy like every other Chevy truck. Not to mention it’s absence greatly improves your approach angle off road.

The third surprise might just be our personal favorite – the presence of Multimatic Spool Valve Shocks. If you haven’t heard, it’s the same tech that trickled down from Formula One. Turns out, they work splendidly off road. As do the ZR2 specific 17-inch wheels and 31-inch Goodyear tires. One of which can be mounted in the bed as a dealer option.

The final surprise comes from the lack of options you’ll need to choose from when you purchase your Colorado ZR2. Simply pick an engine (gas or diesel), cab configuration, and carpet or vinyl flooring. Then you’re ready to go desert running or rock climbing. And that kind of simplicity is exactly why we already love the Colorado ZR2.
