“Angry Grandpa” Surprised with ’55 Chevy: Video
Gifting of Classic Chevy Bel Air to Internet Star Makes for Must-See Viral Video Just in Time for the Holidays
Everyone has that one thing from their past that brings a special feeling of joy. For one man, that thing is a car. A 1955 Chevy Bel Air, to be precise. And, fortunately for anyone needing a wonderful pick-me-up, there is a viral video of the magic moment he was gifted with the gorgeous classic car.
Here’s the set up for the video: For Christmas this year, one dedicated son, Charles Green, gave his dad the second of two things he’d always wanted. The first was his own house, which Charles bought for his father last year.
That left just one item to check off the bucket list.
Charles’ dad — famous on the Internet as “Angry Grandpa” — bought his father’s 1955 Chevy Bel Air when he was 16 years old and first got his driver’s license. Charles says that his dad loved that car more than just about anything, and he drove it everywhere.
Fate played a cruel hand, however, when Grandpa’s sister and her husband were planning a trip out to California and needed a good car to make it happen. Grandpa’s mom gave his sister his car, leaving him with her old, beat-up clunker.
Little did Grandpa know that he and his Bel Air were parting for the first and last time.
On the road to California, the Bel Air broke down. Instead of calling someone to come get them, his sister sold the car to a scrapyard. And just like that, it was gone.
But Grandpa never forgot about that car.
Fast-forward to 2016, when, with camera rolling, Charles and his dad are walking through a parking lot. Charles points out a red convertible in the back of the parking lot. It looks just like the one Grandpa had when he was a teenager.
Grandpa can’t believe it, pointing out all the details he remembered from his early years. It brings up painful memories to see the exact copy of his old car, but he also can’t deny how happy it made him. He asks to have his picture taken with the car, and, of course, Charles obliges.
Later on, back at the house, the biggest surprise of all comes rolling into the driveway: a red 1955 Chevy Bel Air. Overcome with emotion, Grandpa breaks down crying.
His favorite possession, the car he lost so many years ago, is back. And, as Charles keeps pointing out to him, the car is now his again.
