Fans of the miniature Hot Wheels cars can now buy a full-size version.

For many of us, our first introduction to cars came from the seemingly indestructible Hot Wheels scale model cars. For those of us old enough to own full-size models now, you can take a step back in time with the Camaro 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels edition.

Camaro has had a long-standing connection with Hot Wheels, as the initial run of toy cars debuted in 1968 and included an orange Camaro. Never shy to have a special edition vehicle, Chevrolet teamed up with Mattel to design the 50th Anniversary Hot Wheels edition, replicating the orange of the first toy car, but also with special stripes that replicate the plastic tracks on which they would whiz around.

The $4,995 package includes the special colors mentioned above, along with 50th anniversary badges on the sides and steering wheel. 20 inch rims and darker tail lamps are also part of the package. You can’t just get it on any Camaro though, as it’s only on 2LT and 2SS trim levels.

Chevrolet loves the excitement generated by the new model. Todd Christensen, Chevrolet Camaro marketing manager says, “This is one way of us providing a unique and fun look at Camaro and making it a little bit different from others.” We haven’t had an orange in our palette for three or four years, and they’ve been asking for it.”

In recent years, the Camaro has had other special editions that capture the joy and enthusiasm of our youth. A Hot Wheels edition was released in 2013, and just a few years before that, a yellow BumbleBee Transformers edition.

For those who are young at heart and looking for a new camaro, the 2LT edition starts at a reasonable $31,500, but we think you should get the 2SS.
