Last year the truck community was a bit shocked when Motor Trend declared their favorite truck of the year the Chevrolet Colorado. Nobody seemed to expect it to win over the completely redesigned and brand new Ford F-150. But Motor Trend lauded the price and quality for their entry-level version. Now, the Colorado has won again for the optional 2.8L Duramax diesel option.

Returning excellent fuel economy with seemingly endless amounts of torque, the Colorado Diesel scored a lot of points with all the editors at Motor Trend. The diesel version tows more as well, and comes with special features (like a trailer brake controller and diesel exhaust brake) that really make towing a breeze for this midsize truck.

The competition this year wasn’t as fierce as last year, with the newest interesting truck being the Titan XD with the Cummins diesel. But, the overall packaging again on the Colorado wins the day. We’ve driven the new Colorado Diesel, and we agree with most of what Motor Trend says about the new truck. It is fun to drive and a truck we’d gladly put in our driveway.
