Duramax “Coalorado” is the 1,000-HP Race Truck of Your Dreams

This is what happens when people get tired of using their trucks to haul things: eventually, they just start building them to haul ass.

What you’re looking at is The Diesel Shop’s 2006 Colorado with a built Duramax LBZ V8. For the unfamiliar that’s 6.6-liters of diesel burning iron. What makes this one special is the truly enormous 91mm Precision ProMod turbo that, at full chat, puts out some 80 psi. The result is a considerably faster truck. By considerable, I mean, absolutely maniacal. Originally, the Duramax made a little more 650 lb-ft of torque. This thing makes 1800 ft-lbs of torque at the wheels and about a 1000 horsepower.

And that’s before he starts spraying nitrous.

It’s easy to call this thing a sleeper, but anyone with a little bit of car knowledge would know what’s this truck is about from a glance. The massive slicks out back and beefy rear differential are tell-tale signs of speed. You’d be forgiven for assuming this was a work truck if you saw it in your rear mirror, at least, until he steps on it. Then the hood starts spewing black soot and the thing blows past you with the ferocity of a falling star. In almost any situation this truck will be the fastest thing on the road. The most exciting? The Diesel Shop says they’re not quite done with it yet.
