Duramax Diesel Suburban: 100% Real, 100% Awesome

Florida shop builds the diesel Suburban that you’ve always wanted but couldn’t have!

For various, probably valid reasons, Chevrolet doesn’t sell a diesel Suburban to the general public. But we know for a fact that there is indeed a market for an oil burning full-size Chevy SUV. How, you ask? Well, a little shop by the name of Duraburb Incorporated builds around 50 of them annually down in Apopka, Florida. And they’ve been doing it since 2007.

Duraburb isn’t the only third party that builds a diesel Suburban, but their work is certainly top notch. If you were unaware that Chevy didn’t put that Duramax there in the first place, you’d have a hard time telling. The swap looks absolutely factory, as if it belonged there to begin with. The diesel Suburban swap also includes the installation of an Allison transmission and heavy-duty brakes. Duraburb even goes to the trouble of integrating the glow plug system with a dashboard light to let you know when the engine’s warm enough to run.

Like your favorite local breakfast joint, Duraburb builds each diesel Suburban to order. They do this to ensure that the finished product can easily be registered in the owner’s home state, as well as pass emissions. But the real question is, how much does all of this diesel goodness cost you? Well, conversion pricing starts at a hefty $45,000. The subject of the video above, a 2017 ‘Burb, is up for sale at $135,000. Which is obviously a heck of a lot of dough for any Suburban.

But when you consider how much work goes into these conversions, that lofty price seems about right. And if you’re the kind of guy who wouldn’t consider driving anything but a diesel, yet needs the extra cargo room/space for passengers, you won’t find an option better than this!
