Father and son truck enthusiasts work tirelessly for six months to transform abandoned truck into a rolling work of art.

It’s always heart-warming to hear a story of a father-and-son duo working together to make a spectacular vehicle. Truck enthusiast Larry Jones and his son, Jeffrey, took an abandoned 1952 Chevrolet half-ton pickup truck and turned it into a rolling work of art.

As Jones reveals in a profile in North Carolina’s Statesville Record & Landmark, the Cool Springs resident randomly found the pickup about seven years ago. It was sitting virtually forgotten “in the weeds” of a local tire shop, and he felt compelled to purchase the vehicle. When asked about what makes the truck unique, Jones stated, “the truck has been in this neighborhood its whole life.” With the acquisition making Jones the fifth or sixth owner of the vehicle, the fact that the truck has been in the same area for 65 years is astonishing.

“The outside of the truck is completely bare metal — there is no filler on the body,” he says about the truck’s most unique aspect. “Whenever I take it to shows, people always touch the body when they think I’m not looking because they can’t believe it is bare metal.”

When asked what he loves most about the vehicle, Jones tells the Statesville Record, “because my son and I built it together.” And it wasn’t a quick build either. Jones says it took the pair six months to get the truck in the enviable shape that it is in currently.

The exterior, which really shines thanks to the bare sheet metal, looks even better with its chrome grille, chrome headlight surrounds, and chrome wheels. If we saw this ’52 Chevy pickup truck in person, we’d go up to and touch it too. Afterall, just look at this thing!
