Incredible Vintage Chevy Isn’t Your Average Mud Truck

Mud Truck

Why build some boring, modern mud truck when you can conquer the pits in style?

If you’ve ever spent time down at the local mud races, you already know the drill. You’ll see plenty of trucks from the ’80s and up, with modern rides dominating the pits. What you rarely, if ever, see is vintage iron out there taking on all challengers. And we think that’s a shame. So when we spotted this gorgeous 1953 Chevy 3100 mud truck on Craigslist, we knew we had stumbled on something special.

After all, when was the last time you saw a vintage mud truck like this one? Somebody sunk a ton of cash into this old Chevy, and the results are absolutely glorious. It all starts under the curvy hood, where you’ll find a massive 540ci big block Chevy that’s been dyno’d at 850 hp and 960 lb-ft of torque. Now that’s more than enough power to make a heavy steel truck fly. But thanks to a fiberglass body, this one weighs a mere 2,900 pounds!

Obviously, those are race car-type numbers. But in this case, they’re powering a mud truck that sits on massive tires. The rest of the parts list is top notch too, with goodies like a rear Detroit locker/front air locker, Yukon race axles, and King shocks. There’s a full cage inside to keep you safe in the likely event that this thing flips over. And the 5-gallon fuel cell is good for at least one full speed pass.

Honestly, we can’t think of a better way to spend that extra $47k you’ve got laying around. This vintage Chevy mud truck has at least that much money tied up in parts, not including labor. And we can’t think of a more fun (or stylish) way to spend a weekend!
