Mary Barra Made GM’s Chairman of the Board

Mary Barra

Mary Barra made news when she became the CEO of General Motors following the crash and burn of the bankruptcy. She was the first woman in that role for the company, and quickly set about getting the company out of the ashes. Now, in addition to her CEO duties, she’s become chairman of the board.

Being a publicly-traded company, General Motors has a board of directors that help govern the company and their policies. The often provide direction, and are often crucial in picking top-level management positions. Ms. Barra now has a seat at that big table, along with her control of running the company.

Ms. Barra is the first female to hold a chairman seat with General Motors. Tim Solso, the previous chairman, will stay on as the company’s lead independent director.

Congratulations to Ms. Barra on the new role.
