Notorious B.I.G.’s GMC Suburban – Yes, THAT One – Is Up For Sale
Seller Asking $1.5 Mil for Late Hip-Hop Icon’s 1997 GMC SUV
Iconic rappers’ cars are becoming hot-ticket items.
A few weeks ago, TMZ reported that the BMW 750IL that Tupac Shakur was shot and killed in was on sale by the company Moments in Time for just $1.5 million. Now, the website All Hip Hop reports news of another influential late rapper’s car up for grabs. Now, Moments in Time is offering up the 1997 GMC Suburban once owned by the Notorious B.I.G., who is also known as Biggie Smalls (Christopher Wallace).
The dark green GMC Suburban is the same vehicle that Smalls lost his life in on March 9, 1997, after he was shot while leaving Vibe magazine’s Soul Train Awards after-party at L.A.’s Petersen Automotive Museum. All Hip Hop reports that the truck is now for sale for $1.5 million.
A letter by the previous owner states that they had no idea they had purchased such a historically significant vehicle. “My husband and I bought the car in October of ’97, when we were looking for a larger vehicle for our family of six,” writes the owner.
The Suburban’s owner learned of the GMC SUV’s history only after being contacted by lawyers involved in the trial
The vehicle–or, actually, the door–is still a part of an ongoing trial that started back in 2005. The Suburban’s owner learned of the GMC SUV’s history only after being contacted by lawyers involved in the trial. After 20 years of ownership, the owner has decided to let the vehicle go.
According to the letter, the Suburban has 114,000 miles on it and is in “good running condition.” The seller has even requested that the LAPD put the bullet-riddled door back onto the vehicle once they have completed their case. There is, though, a noticeable bullet hole in one of the seatbelts.
We think it’s safe to say that if someone pays the asking price, the SUV will become the most expensive GMC ever sold.
