When you get out of the bigger cities, you might be surprised how many special edition vehicles show up.

Selling special edition vehicles to commemorate different occasions isn’t a new practice. Yet, in our hometown in Southern California, where there is no shortage of vehicles, you would be hard-pressed to find a special edition in the bunch. Sometimes if you want to find something special, like this 1993 Chevy 1500 Pace truck with the Indianapolis 500 special edition package, you’ll have to head into the country.

Seriously, outside of a large city we’ve seen more oddball (and cool) special edition vehicles in the past two years than in the 27 years prior in SoCal. Case in point: This 1993 Chevy 1500 Pace truck. It’s a factory tribute truck for the 77th annual Indianapolis 500, and this is number 9 of 2,000 made, according to the ad. Sporting a 350 V-8, an automatic, it has just 4,838 miles on the clock! When you look at the pictures it also shows that this thing is immaculate. We were actually a little surprised it looked this good. We’re betting this truck lived a good portion of its life in a garage.

The Indy 500 special edition vehicles, which also included Corvettes and Camaros, are often some of the hardest to find. They’re valuable when in good condition and appear to be coveted by collectors. Though we’d get more excited about a Chevy 454 SS truck, to be honest. However, from a collector’s standpoint an Indy Edition is less likely to have been thrashed on. The package includes blacking out certain bits, special decals and badges, and the overall custom paint scheme.

If you were looking for a special edition Chevy, would you get something like this, or maybe something faster?
