Scammers Sell Rental Car for Cash in Houston

2016 Chevrolet Suburban

Do you believe that it’d be possible to rent a car from Enterprise, forge paperwork saying it doesn’t belong to the rental company, put it on Craigslist and sell it for half the amount it’s worth in cash? If you answered “yes,” then you have about the same faith in humanity as I do! But you also accurately predicted what some scammers recently managed to pull off in Houston.

The scammers rented the Chevrolet Suburban valued at $60,000 using fake identification and credit cards. After renting the vehicle, they forged paperwork saying they owned the vehicle, and listed the vehicle for sale for $30,000.

Now, most of us would probably question a car that’s basically new selling for half-price on Craigslist. I mean, it’s gotta be stolen, right? Well there is a sucker born everyday, and it turns out this person showed up and purchased the car in cash. That’s right, cash. The scammers sped away quickly in another rental car.

When the buyer went to register the vehicle they learned the vehicle was stolen. I can only imagine what they were feeling.

The enterprising scammers are now $30,000 in cash richer, and according to police are still at large. Remember kids, if the offer is too good to be true, it usually is.
