Tahoe Custom: Legendary Capability at a Discounted Price

While the rest of the automotive world goes upmarket, Chevy’s new Tahoe Custom constitutes a real bargain.

It’s no secret that trucks and SUVs are getting more and more feature and technology laden. Which, of course, also means that they’re getting more expensive. But the 2018 Chevy Tahoe Custom aims to do something rare in the automotive world today. And that’s offer the same legendary capability as its brethren, yet at a discounted price.

Simply put, the Tahoe Custom, based on the LS trim, comes equipped with the same 5.3 liter, 355 hp V8 as the rest of the Tahoe lineup. That means it sports a healthy 6,600 pound towing capacity (8,600 pounds with the optional max trailering package). And there’s also plenty of cargo space – 112 max cubic feet. The Tahoe Custom also comes in two or four wheel drive, and is available with all sorts of connectivity options like 4G LTE and Apple CarPlay & Android Auto compatibility. And it all starts at $44,995.

That price undercuts the Tahoe LS by a full $3,515. Granted, that discount comes with a couple of concessions. The biggest of which is the lack of a third row seat. You’ll also forgo polished wheels for painted 18 inchers, and you’ll have to make due with a “chrome-accented” grille. Not exactly what we’d call much of a sacrifice to save that kind of cash. Unless you absolutely have to have the extra seating, of course.

In a world filled with four and six cylinder crossovers, the body-on-frame Tahoe is a rare breed. And now we can also officially call it a bargain, thanks to the addition of the Tahoe Custom. After all, where else are you going to find something this capable for this kind of money?
