Call me crazy, but either despicable acts like these are on the rise, or authorities are doing a better job at spreading the news in hopes of sending a message. Either or, thieves are impacting local dealerships and therefore local economies.

You won’t hear me stand up for car dealerships too often, but if dealerships can’t sell vehicles because of stolen wheels, sales people, mechanics, accountants, managers and more are impacted, which means their families are impacted, which means bills go unpaid and everyone has a shitty time overall. Meanwhile these crooks make out big time and sell these parts across the United States or even outside of the country.

The most recent victim of this wave of organized crime was Peltier Chevrolet of Tyler, Texas, who got taken to the cleaners for over a quarter-million dollars worth of Chevy and GMC wheels and tires. According to the police report, thieves were able to dismantle 48 different vehicles in little less than four hours! Now that’s some serious skill, which tells us this is not their first, nor their last illegal rodeo.

According to their math, $250,000 dollars worth of wheels and tires averages out to $5,208 bucks per each one of the 48 units damaged. I don’t know about you, but that sounds a little high, unless each truck happened to be an LT, LTZ, Z71 model or above. Maybe that’s just the amount being reported for insurance purposes, who knows.

Editor’s Note: According to an insurance expert, the claimed value may involve other damages besides the stolen goods. Source says that 9 out of 10 affected vehicles show severe undercarriage damage.

Regardless, I hope these crooks get caught and justice is served, don’t you?
