Third-Gen IROC Camaro Convertible Succumbs to Fire

Almost unrecognizable as the mint condition example it once was, we hope it gets restored soon.

We here at ChevroletForum hope you’re having a great week, because we’re about to ruin it. You know how when you smell something awful, you immediately try to make someone else smell it too and share the experience with you? This is kind of like that.

Like 265,000 other Camaro lovers, we follow the camaro.family Instagram account and enjoy it immensely. Every day we’re treated to excellent photos of well-sorted Camaros, sating our appetite for excellent Camaro content. But today was different.

Instead of a photo or video of an awesome Camaro, we instead saw the aftermath of a horrific fire that all but destroyed what was once a beautiful third-gen IROC convertible. It’s sad to see any Camaro in this condition, but we’re especially broken up at the loss of what looked to be a clean third-gen convertible. You just don’t see them very often.

Since we had to experience it, you have to, too, so we’re sharing the video here. We recommend scrolling through the rest of the camaro.family feed to lift your spirits back up afterward.

We really feel awful for the owner. There’s enough car left after the fire to tell that it was very well taken care of, and was clearly their pride and joy. We can’t even imagine something like this happening to our cars.

There is a bit of triumph in the face of tragedy, though. In the video, the burnt IROC is moving under its own power, so there’s a very good chance that it will one day be back and better than ever. We hope it’s soon. Like its sister car’s namesake, the mythical Firebird, it will rise from the ashes and be born anew.
