This Reddit User’s Story About a 2016 Malibu Is Priceless

In the world of Reddit, _vargas_ has a cult following. This user’s lengthy stories are brought together by a concise stream of thought, and are entertaining, if a little unusual at times. But that’s all part of the appeal. A chance encounter with a Chevrolet salesman named Justin altered Vargas’ previous Ford Probe-filled life and replaced it with a Lexus 2016 Chevrolet Malibu.

The thoroughly written user report comes after 10 months of ownership, and 9,000 miles shared between Vargas , and an overly friendly grandmother. The story also touches on the Malibu’s babysitter programming, which gives a report of the last drive. You know… to make sure granny isn’t racing.

While companies normally give out highly optioned cars to press fleets, it doesn’t always reflect what the actual consumer purchases. That makes this model — a 1.5 turbo LT1 — a perfect baseline to see what the regular folks get when they buy a car.

Vargas had never written on any r/cars subreddit topics, though, so they decided to present it as an AMA-style thread. Topics of discussion included if the fake leather seats vs. the real leather posed a threat to picking up disease, and blind spots. It is educational to hear from a buyer as well because one of those topics most certainly would not be covered by Edmunds.
