Default 1997 k1500 engine question

So my step son owns a 1997 k1500 4wd with a 5.7l vortec engine in which he threw a rod out the oil oan today. I have the ability to score a low mileage 92 gmc 1500 5.7l TBI engine from a 2wd. Is it possible for me to just use the TBI's short block as a replacement block for the votec's and bolt the heads, intake, sensors, accessories and replace the oil pan with one from a 4wd to the TBI short block and drop it in as a replacement? Any guidance before I purchase this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Pretty sure you can as long as all the sensors have place to go.
