I have a 5.7 vortech out of a 1999 truck! It has one hundred thousand miles on it. It will be going into a 1957 CJ6 which already has a 1989 chevy 305 with a 700r4 trans in it! The 5.7 needs a rebuild! Its something I have always wanted to do so here is my chance. What I am looking for here is any helpful hints or tricks or things to look out for along the way! Is there any up dates for poppet style injection system! I am thinking of after market systems or keeping it simple and going with a carburator. This is just a trail jeep not a rock crawler or drag jeep. I am looking at new cam and valve train and having it balanced. I want it done right the first time! This is my first time on a forum so any thoughts or ideas will be greatly appreciated:-) Thanks.

i would keep it fuel injected if you have the skill for it as the computer will be tricky to hook up, the reason i would stick with it is bacause carbs cut out on harsh angles unles u have a holly or rochester, and also when at high altitudes the carb will run badly. if going carbed u will need an intake, distributor and of course a carb, myself i would try to figure out the fuelly system for a tril truck, but i have lots of automotive exp, its all on the skills u have

Not a big fan of vortec heads. The intakes only bolt down at the front and back. The intake gaskets can sag and cause issues. Be very careful bolting them down. I have 3 trucks with vortec 5.7's. I have been thru the issue on one of them. Good luck
