Default Dashboard cluster crazy

Hi. I am new here. So, glad to meet everyone.

I have a 02 silverado 98xxx mi 5.3. My dash cluster/bezel goes crazy. Lights flash, gauges drop bottom or max out. Also, i get a hard time starting it. Ot takes abt 2 times. I am thinking the problem starting and the cluster are are one problem. I do have a vid of it but i see i cant up load it.

Anyone experience this? Thinking i need a new cluster.

Hi, Tanin Auto Electronix here. We are vendors on the site and can offer assistance. The gauges bouncing and being sporadic and lights flashing is something that we can help with. Visit our website here for information on our instrument cluster diagnostics service:

Gauge Cluster Speedometer Diagnosis Service

We will diagnose, inspect, test, and make recommendations on your gauge cluster problems. This is for any make and any model. If your part cannot be repaired, we can help locate a replacement part for you and program the correct mileage into it.

We repair and sell almost every make and model speedometer, climate control, and radio or stereo from 1990 to the present. Our general turnaround time for normal every day repairs is 1-3 days.

Let us know if you have any other questions and concerns on the cluster. We are happy to help out. We do want to mention that the car not turning over is most likely not related to the cluster. There may be more than one thing happening with your vehicle.

Thanks,

Grounds we were having issues with our suburban intermittently shutting off and gauges bouncing until I pulled the cluster and ran new grounds.

That being said these clusters have no shortage of issues, steeper motors was another big one.

Can you tell me how, where you grounded it. I took it out so i can get the oem #. When i put it back some of the smaller gauges moved. Key was not in or ignition was not turned on. I have been driving it for past cpl of days. No issues as of yet(knock on wood). Thanks.

From what I remember, I pulled the cluster out found the ground wires and spliced into them and ran them to a metal screw somewhere on the cluster frame. I want to say there were 2 ground wires in the bundle so I just d them both and that solved my problem.

Good luck!

Good morning Silverstreak,

My name is Craig with D&D Instruments. I agree with Hicksvilleshick in that you may have some ground issues. The 2002 Instrument cluster is not prone to nearly the issues that the 2003-2006 GM clusters are. Verify your power and grounds are good before having the cluster shipped out for repair. If you do ultimately find it is the cluster we are located in Minneapolis, MN and would be happy to look at it for you also. We pay shipping both ways. Feel free to check out our website at Auto Gauge Cluster Repair Service | Instrument Cluster Replacement GM, Ford, Chevy, Dash & Audi - D & D Instruments or contact us through here if you have any questions.

Good luck!

I had a major problem with my gauge cluster last winter -- nothing worked but the fuel and temperature gauges. A local shop "swapped out" my unit with a rebuilt one - which they guaranteed for one year. I would suggest that route. It cost me about $300 and took them about a half-hour to do it. I just had to call them the day beforehand with my VIN and the odometer mileage. No problems since then.

They basically give you a "remanufactured" unit (including new glass) and then rebuild your old one for someone else. Can't speak for the other vendors, but you can PM me for the name of the place that did mine here in Richmond, VA. I would recommend them to anyone. I suppose another local business may be able to help you in your town. The bad instrument panels are a frequent problem for these GM trucks.

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!!
