I knew Chevrolet started using that setup in 2007-2008, but I will trust you about the 2004 C-1500 using a single-line, in-tank fuel filter/pump. Rock auto shows external fuel filters .for that year, but who knows? I knew my 2015 Malibu had that set-up, and I dont like it. I am used to fuel injected heavy-duty class 8 vehicle diesel engines that always have a return line, as does my 1998 K-1500 Vortec.

I would have thought that the GM engineers would have understood that pickups get more dirt, water and sediment in the fuel tank, being used off-road and all, but I suppose not. I guess I will be keeping my K-1500 for a much longer time, since I can change the inline fuel filter, and being a 5-speed stick, I dont need to worry about transmission filter changes, as I do with the internal filter on my 2015 Malibu 6T40 6-speed automatic transmission.

My hat is off to you, Sir!

Speaking of fuel tanks, I have seen people cut large holes in the pickup bed, in order to change the fuel pump, without dropping the tank out of the vehicle. I've even seen a car that had that done to the bottom of the trunk floor.

Hell the way things are going, they wont even use motor-oil filters, or maybe even no motor-oil drains one day. They will be "permanently sealed engines", just like the new automatic transmission$ supposedly are (yeah, right). Once the engine$ burn out, and they will, you just have to have new replacement engine$ in$talled!

Default 2004 Chevrolet Avalanch fuel filter location

my 2004 Chevrolet Avalanch does not have an inline fuel filter. First one I've seen without one.
Did GM start this. Because mine has a manufacturer date of 10/03 which makes it an 04. Everywhere I've read they have one but mine don't. Mine also does not have a cabin air filter.
Has anyone else ran into this?
