Smile Very high rpm @ idle speed Astro 1997

Y'day I drove my van about 10 Kms parked in a lot, after 2 hrs start it again, the engine roared like running @ almost 5000 rpm, got scred did not put in drive shut it off, checked all throttle cables, openedthe linkage between body and accelerator, sent to a local mechanic, checked all codes no problem seen yet.
Can some one suggest the cause.
Noticed for last few deays when I put the car in drive the rpm used to go slightly 20 5 high then roll back to normal after a minute or so.
Pl. advice any problems before I spent too much money on this old horse.

Sounds like an idle air control.

Cool idle air control valve

Did open this finally, was very dirty, checked with turning switch ON, it did move slowly back & front, not rapidly, cleaned with break cleaner , put it back , try to run the engine again, same high rpm, scred to put on drive.
Do we take it to dealer now, does not show any Codes on OBD either.
Should I replace this part cost about $132 Plus Tax, Do not mind as long it fix the problem

Let me know

Default idler pulleys' bad mon

Most likely ur idler pulley / tensionor bearing / wheel is bad or rusty which slows down the pulley set so the engine has to idle higher to keep up thus get the faulty bearing moving..... again
