Default 92 lumina hood release

I am trying to open the hood of my 92 lumina. The pull lever in the car seems to have broken. The wire is accessible , but it can't be pulled further back. It seems like the latch release is jammed, but I can't get the hood to pop open

What do you mean the wire is accessible? Where at?

I once broke a cable at the handle and had to use pliers to pull on it.

Can you remove the front grille to gain access?

Can you get some lube spray up in there?

I mean I can physically grab the release wire both inside the car and from under the hood. The hood is released, but it will not open. It is like something still has it caught.

This is not my car. I am trying to work on it for a friend. I can see any secondary hood release latch under the hood. The hood iself is unlatched but only comes up an inch.

Did you mean you "can't see it"?

Generally on GM products, you stick your hand in there, and lift the secondary hood release up. That's a safety feature so the hood doesn't fly open and crash on yourself.

Maybe you can put a screwdriver or crowbar through the grille and move it manually?

had this problem on a 91 lumina. I had to make a hook out of stiff wire and reach up from under the car in the front and hook the wire right where it comes out of the plastic sheath up at the latch and pull. then it would release all the way and the secondary latch would work. if the cable is still in tact lubricate the hell out of everything and try again. the hook trick works, but if you keep doing it you will screw up the cable, so if you can lube it and fix it great. good luck
