1984 Caprice COUPE for sale. 4speed auto + 5.0L
Hello
These are the honest facts
Car was bought as an adventure. Me and friend were supposed to work on it. This guy who can 'work on cars' couldn't change the 3rd brake light
These the things I've done
Replaced battery
New distributor carbon button, plus filing down all corrosion
Compression test, all cylinders within spec, no bad cylinders
New passenger caliper, hose, and brake line
New drivers caliper
Stripped paint off of hood, roof, trunk
Flushed coolant
New brake fluid
Cleaned carb throttle plates
Opened drivers frozen door (nightmare)
Very clean inside
Trans is good
starts up immediately
May need new shocks or springs?( I saw cause it rides funny
New thermostat
I cleared the check engine light, it was getting hot b/c of thermostat not opening
Problems
My heart dropped out of the project due to all the welding that is neccessary
I found out that there is NO DRIVERS FLOORPAN from the lower rocker to seat mount to trans tunnel to past pedals. What I thought was the floor was the crossmember
The previous owner used thin sheet metal and screws
to make new rocker panels, those are rusted through
I cut off all the rusted bottom of the door panels, there simply wasn't anything there. I am started but not done with welding a plate (16? gauge) across the bottom to close it up. I was going to pinch the inside and outside together, but had to grind off more rust and now I can only weld it flat and not pinch it
The wheel wells in the truck have holes due to rust
Typical rear frame rot
The rear quarter panels have rotted.
Needs new blower motor. Bearing screaming. When jumped from the battery there was heat
Needle on shifter has fallen
Headliner fallen
Bad window motors
Radio questionable
Previous owner did some funky **** with the fuel and wiper fluid lines
With all that said It is still a rare caprice coupe. I just fortunately stopped myself from working on it realizing I would have to keep the car for life with all the time/$ put into it.
I have to say it is an GREAT opportunity for someone who is looking to make major upgrades to a car like this. Instead of replacing good parts or waiting for them to fail a lot of work can be done at once.
I am in Chicago. Contact me at bayss _ 0 @ yahoo . com, just take out the spaces
At worst I can part it out
