Default 1986 Caprice Down Shifting Problem When Warmed Up

I have a 1986 Caprice Classic, two-door with a problem that only occurs when the engine is warmed up. It doesn't down shift some of the time when stopping and will make the engine pull hard at slow speeds when stopping. It up shifts OK. The car will jerk and seems to be pre-igniting if you slow down to say 5MPH and then try to resume driving at normal speeds. You can down shift with the shifter and all shifts work as you would expect.

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

the locking tourque converter isnt dissengauging when slowing i would try a filter and fluid change and if that doesnt work it is either the torque converter is bad or the switch that unlocks it is bad. it is possible to put the lockup on a switch though ill look it up and get back to u on it
