Default Failed Inspection-Need Some Help

My wife took her '05 G6 in today to get inspected and it failed. Both outer tierods are shot and so is the lower ball-joint on the passenger side. I'm assuming the outer tierods are as easy to replace as any other car, unscrew them and screw the new ones back on? I'm not finding anything that says you can just replace the balljoint, but you need to replace the whole lower control arm.....is this correct? If so, is replacing the control arm easy enough with normal hand tools?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
Adam
