Default 97 cavalier electronic problems

97 cavalier 2.2 keeps dieing after it has been running awhile. will restart after it has cooled down. Have replaced the TPS with an after market on and solved the problem for a couple weeks. Put a TPS from dealer and it last about 3 months. Don't know what else ot can be. Thanks for any help.

I can't believe it's the TPS then. Maybe there's an intermittent connection inside the electrical connector or wire. The act of unplugging, plugging, and moving the connector and wiring harness may be making the problem go away for a while. The connector is wired up as follows:

Pin A GRY wire from PCM connector C2, terminal 33 supplies 5V Ref
Pin B BLK wire from PCM connector C1, terminal 57 supplies Low Ref (ground)
Pin C DK BLU wire to PCM connector C1, terminal 21 TP Sens

You want to see 5V on A, ground potential on B, and variable voltage on C (depending on the throttle position) with key on, engine off. When it acts up, carefully backprobe C while flexing the wiring harness and then measure A and B each with the connector off.

I would almost suspect the EGR valve. You can test it by removing the electrical connection to it, then use a 9volt battery with test leads on the 2 outermost pins in the EGR, you should hear it click, then do the test with the leads in the opposite direction. If there is no clicking, the EGR may be bad.
