Default First timer engine swap

hi all,
pretty much this is my first engine swap. here is the low down.

1. (vehicle) 1998 chevy cavalier, automatic, dual over head cam, liter size- unknown (not displayed anywhere visible)

2. (new engine acquired) single over head cam, liter size-unknown (again not displayed) previously used in a chevy cavalier, manual

now for the questions.

1. will this engine work?
A)with the difference in single and dual make calibration of timing "off"
b)does it matter that this engine came from a manual transmission?
C)Assuming the liter size is different will that matter?

If this engine will work without any complications any advice of what to be weary of?

If this engine does not work any advice of what to do to make it? E.G. new ecu or re wiring of systems?

If unsure of weather it will work or will not work please advise me to someone that will know.

Very much appreciated.
please contact me via thread or my email address.

98 came with two engine options.
2.2 liter SFI OHV
2.4 liter SFI DOHC

The transmission type should not be a factor.

Your best bet would be to get another 2.4 or rebuild your current making the swap easier.

Look over the replacement motor for some casting or engine #'s or the VIN from the donator vehicle. That will help someone determine if your donor motor will work with your electronics

Update:
So, i discovered that the sohc does not work for a cavalier with an original doch. Chevy made the ecu fit the engine size, even if i exchange the ecu with the ecu from the donor vehicle it will not work without re wiring everything.

So i ran to pull apart, got a doch and now trying to find time to install it.

Thank you very much for the advice.

Any tricks you got for me much appreciated.

Just the basic stuff. Take pictures before you dissasemble and throughout the process. Get some ziplock bags and label the hardware and where it goes as you take it apart. Use masking tape and lable all the wires as you take them off. Replace any worn parts such as motor mounts, clean degrease the engine bay and new motor. Lift the old motor out slow so you can disconnect those wires you missed. Use locktite where needed and use correct torque on the fasteners. Have fun
